Mr. Maged Shawky is the ViceChairman of Beltone Financial Holding after being the CEO of the group for 3years. Mr. Shawky was the Executive Chairman of The Egyptian Stock Exchangesince July 2005 till July 2010 after being the Deputy for the chairman foralmost a year. During the period of 2002 till mid 2004, he represented theRegulator (Capital Market Authority) in the board of directors of the Exchangefor three years. He held the position of Senior Assistant to the Minister ofEconomy and Foreign Trade for Securities Markets issues for around 12 yearssince 1994. He chaired the Board of an IT joint-venture between the EgyptianStock Exchange and NASDAQ-OMX named "Egypt for Informationdissemination" (EGID). Mr. Shawky plays an instrumental role since 2002 inpromoting corporate governance and corporate social responsibility. In 2003,Mr. Shawky held the position of the Executive Director and established theEgyptian Institute of Director (EIOD) until his appointment as vice-chairman tothe Exchange mid-year 2004. Furthermore, Mr. Shawky co-authored the firstEgyptian Code of Corporate Governance in 2004. Mr. Shawky has a wide experiencein corporate restructuring, asset management structures sovereign and emergingmarket advisory services in various sectors. Mr. Shawky used to be board memberof the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), Misr for Clearing Depositary &Registration, National Post Organization, Egyptian Institute of Directors, andThe Egyptian Insurance Supervisory Authority. He was also the former Chairmanof the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA) for two consecutive terms.Mr. Shawky holds a Masters Degree in Financial Economics from Queen Mary,University of London, United Kingdom. Authored and co-authored number ofresearch papers on corporate governance and modeling volatility of the market,some have been published in regional and international periodicals.
