Dr. Benedict Okey Oramah
President and Chairman
the African Export – Import Bank

Dr. Oramah assumed theposition of President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AfricanExport – Import Bank (Afreximbank) in September 2015.

Prior to his current role, he was the Executive VicePresident responsible for Business Development and Corporate Banking (BDCB), aposition he occupied from October 2008 to September 2015. As Executive VicePresident, Dr. Oramah supervised theBusiness Development functions, namely: Trade Finance, Project and Exportdevelopment finance, Syndications and Specialized Finance (SSF), and CorporateFinance and Advisory Services (CFAS). He also supervised the Research and KnowledgeManagement Functions of the Bank. Further, he assisted the then President ofthe Bank in overseeing the Bank’s Strategic Planning and InternationalCooperation functions. Dr. Oramah joined Afreximbank as Chief Analyst in 1994and was promoted to the position of Senior Director, Planning and BusinessDevelopment in 2007.

Prior to joining Afreximbank, he held the positionof Assistant Research Manager at the Nigerian Export Import Bank (NEXIM) from1992 to 1994.

Dr. Oramahholds an Advanced Management Certificate from the Colombia University obtainedin 2015, an M.Sc. and Ph.D. Degrees in Agricultural Economics obtained in 1987and 1991 respectively from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Heobtained a B.Sc. degree in Agricultural Economics from the University ofIbadan, Nigeria in 1983. He recently published a book titled “Foundations of Structured Trade Finance”and has written over 35 professional/scholarly articles on a wide range ofAfrican economic, trade and trade finance issues.

He is a regular speaker at several trade and tradefinance conferences around the world. Dr. Oramah is a Member of the EmergingMarkets Advisory Council of the Institute of International Finance (IIF), anExecutive Committee Member of the Factors Chain International (FCI)/InternationalFactors Group (IFG), a member of the Consultative Board on the World CocoaEconomy of the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) and a Fellow of theInstitute of Credit Administration (FICA). He also serves on the EditorialBoards of Trade and Forfaiting Review (TFR) and the Journal of African Trade(JAT).

He is married and has three children.
